Adelanto is a city in San Bernardino County, California about 9 miles northwest of Victorville. The population was 18,130 at the 2000 census.

The name Adelanto is Spanish for progress or advance, and was first given to the post office that was established on the site in 1917.

Adelanto is located in the Mojave Desert at 343434N, 1172558W (34.575990, -117.432713)GR1.

The racial makeup of the city was 50.45% White, 13.11% African American, 1.61% Native American, 1.60% Asian, 0.18% Pacific Islander, 26.58% from other races, and 6.47% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 45.77% of the population.
